Sree Siddaganga College of Arts, Science & Commerce (Degree college)

His Holiness Karnataka Ratna Dr.Sri Sri Shivakumaraswamigalu, the founder President of Sree Siddaganga Education Society ® envisioned women's empowerment through higher education. Education of women especially rural women, his holiness believed is the key to the development of our nation. Keeping in mind the conservative mindset of the average Indian middle class and also to target education specifically at girls, his holiness bifurcated Sree Siddaganga Arts, Science & Commerce College – a co-education institution into Siddaganga Boys College, and women's college in 1982. The government approved the bifurcation and sanctioned the college vide order no. ED 66/WPC- 81 BANGALORE DATED 13/08/1982. The college was affiliated to Bangalore University , Bangalore .

The College has been affiliated to the Tumkur University, Tumkur and is the only UG College in the entire university to get accredited by NAAC with a B++ grade. Our College is located in the heart of the city close to the City Railway Station and Bus Stand making it easy for the girls to commute from neighboring taluks and villages too.

THE LIBRARY
The library of SSCW is its pride. The huge library is well stacked with books and C.Ds on various subjects and topics. It also has a digital library with 10 computers with internet facility. A photocopier is also available, in case one wants take home information. The ambience here is perfect to exercise your gray cells. The state-of-the-art library, with its vast array of books, well trained, polite, helpful library staff working under a dynamic Chief Librarian, who was felicitated with the Rajyotsava Award by the Government of Karnataka, the facilities like Internet and Xerox, the bright airy interiors, good seating arrangements, availability of drinking water, well maintained Lavatory etc, ensure that the budding scholars work here peacefully and comfortably for hours.

LANGUAGE LAB:
English, the lingua franca of today, is associated with upward mobility. Since a considerable number of our students are from rural areas and need to hone their English language skills for that coveted upward mobility and confidence, SSCW has set up a language lab to cater to their needs in this regard. This lab has 15 computers and is managed by well trained faculty. Excellent interactive software is used to give our students, that winning edge.

SPOORTHI:
The cultural festival of our College, ‘Spoorthi', is a big hit in town, so much so that students of other colleges and the general public keep date with it and throng the auditorium. The reason for the phenomenal success of this programme is the variety of competitions which showcase the talents of our girls.
