Sree Siddaganga School for the Blind
Sree Siddaganga Gurukula has given special attention to the needs of children with deformities and especially to the Blind. In the premises of the Sree Siddaganga Mutt, on 1st August 1978 Dr. Sree Sree Sivakumar Swamiji started the Blind School . He sought the expert guidance for running the school effectively in order to meet the specific needs of the Visually handicapped children. For all of them free hostel facility is also provided with an independent building with facilities for the study, learning and work. The school offers education upto 7th Standard and also offers music and cane furniture building arts. Today the school has also acquired facilities for Braille script in terms of its learning and generation of products like books. It is being augmented with IT facilities like Computers with Braille Keyboards.
Karnataka Navachetan Residential School for the Blind
Karnataka Navachetan Residential School for the Blind is located in Kunigal was taken over by the Gurukula in the year 1999. This school has 50 blind children, both Boys and Girls, who are studying from 1st to 7th Standard. It has 4 adequately trained teachers and 5 Non-teaching staff. The school along with the primary education also offers, training in Music.
Sree Siddaganga Intergrated Education Centre
Sree Siddaganga Samanvaya Education Centre, started in 1993-94, with the cooperation of Government of India, MHRD. The centre admits blind and other handicapped children. The centre provides professional and vocational education after the 7th Standard. There are 21 Blind Children, 39 hearing and speech deformity, 5 Mentally retarded and 70 physically handicapped children are pursuing their studies in this centre now. It has now 6 teachers, who have obtained training in this environment
Domestic facilities to the Children
All the children studying in these schools are provided with free boarding and lodging. Each child is given, plates, drinking glass, a pair of uniform and non-uniform dresses, and one Woolen Sweater. The rooms are provided with a Cot, a bed and a woolen blanket. For daily use and to maintain cleanliness they are also supplied with soap - washing and bath soap, Tooth brush and tooth powder, and also hair oil. For bath hot water is also made available. Each child is also given a slate, abacus tailor frame, stylus and also a Braille Watch and a walking stick. The meeting of parents of the inmates is also arranged periodically.
All the institutions have made available good medical and health facilities, and periodical medical check-ups are also conducted Teaching and Learning Resources Available All the Schools are equipped with adequate teaching and learning facilities such as Braille Books Library stacked with Braille textbooks and books for leisure reading like short stories, biographies and so on. There are other reading materials like journals, magazines and books on current affairs and general knowledge. The Library has also audio cassettes to supplement and complement the Braille books. The Schools have separate Learning Resources halls consisting of facilities for learning the Braille Script, Braille Typewriters, Computers, Shorthand machines, Abacus for the mathematics learning, raised maps and models of fruits and vegetables, and sports equipment. Everyday students from each class will be provided training in the learning process |
